School Leaders Forum – Interactive Map

The School Leaders Forum brought the UAE school leadership community together on the Expo 2020 Dubai site, as part of the Expo School Programme. It was one of the events held on the site before Expo 2020 opened its doors in October 2021, after the opening had been postponed due to COVID-19. For many guests it was a first look at the huge site, so they needed an easy way to find their way around.

The solution

ECHT developed and installed an interactive wayfinding guide. A small iPad on a slim stand served as the controller: visitors used it to select a point of interest, and the result, with the location and details, appeared on a large screen built into a branded wall with the message "We've got you covered!".

The application was fully bilingual in English and Arabic, matching the audience of the forum and the Expo School Programme branding.

Why it worked

• Simple, icon-based navigation on the iPad
• A large, shared screen that a whole group can follow at once
• Location and details shown on an aerial map of the Expo 2020 site
• Fully bilingual in English and Arabic

The result

Guests could find the essential points of interest on their own, which reduced the load on event staff and made a very large site feel easy to navigate.
