GMED is Gilead Sciences Middle East's educational platform, where doctors can search for balanced educational resources on Gilead's clinical areas of interest. It was developed specifically for healthcare professionals in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Lebanon.
The challenge
Gilead needed a memorable way to introduce the new platform to a busy professional audience.
The solution
ECHT designed a friendly 3D robot character as the face of GMED and brought it to life with browser-based Augmented Reality (Web AR) for Android and iOS devices. The experience is markerless: doctors open it in their phone's browser, and the robot appears in their own surroundings, on a desk or a table, where it introduces the new GMED educational platform.
We handled the complete process:
- Character design, from 2D sketch to 3D model
- Rigging and animation
- The Web AR experience itself
Why Web AR
There's no app store and no installation: the experience starts in the browser. That removes the biggest barrier to Augmented Reality, especially for busy professionals, and works the same way in every country the platform serves. Being markerless, it works anywhere, without a printed image to scan.
The result
A playful, memorable introduction to a serious educational platform, which gave GMED a recognisable character and invited doctors to explore the online resources.
