Ahead of its opening, Legoland Dubai, part of Dubai Parks and Resorts, unveiled the park's layout to thousands of local and international visitors at Arabian Travel Market (ATM). The centrepiece was a four-square-metre model map of the park, built from LEGO® bricks over more than 1,600 hours using 150,000 bricks.
The solution
ECHT brought the model to life with Augmented Reality. Using the DubaiLand Launch AR app on iPads, visitors could discover and navigate their way through the park's six themed areas:
- LEGO City
- Adventure
- LEGO Kingdoms
- Imagination
- Factory
- Miniland
When visitors pointed an iPad at the model, animated 3D content appeared on top of it, such as a green LEGO dragon rising above the park entrance.
Why AR on a physical model
The brick model gave visitors something real to walk around and admire, and Augmented Reality added movement, stories and information that a static model can't. Together, they created a 3D preview of a park that didn't exist yet.
The result
Delegates got a playful first look at Legoland Dubai long before its opening, and the combination of a giant LEGO model and Augmented Reality gave visitors a stand experience they could explore, not just look at.
