Medical topics are a lot easier to understand when a healthcare expert explains them. Gilead wanted a new way to help doctors educate healthcare professionals across the Middle East and North Africa, and to explain complex topics to the medical community and the public.
The solution
ECHT developed a mobile information app with a 3D doctor in Augmented Reality. We recreated the character from a real doctor, from reference photos to a detailed 3D head and body. When users point their phone at the marker of Gilead's "live" campaign, the doctor appears on the table in front of them and explains each topic in his own voice.
The app covers nine healthcare areas:
- Asthma
- Cardiology
- COPD
- Diabetes
- IVF
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Neurosurgery
- Rheumatology
Each area includes a short explanation and links to trusted medical sources, such as the American Diabetes Association and the CDC.
For healthcare professionals
Through the app, doctors gain access to updated educational content, as well as relevant conference updates and guidelines, all in one place on their phone. The app was used across the whole MENA region.
Why Augmented Reality
A 3D doctor standing on your own desk and talking to you is far more memorable than a PDF. It makes complex medical information feel personal and approachable, and gives Gilead's campaign a recognisable face.
