Citibank wanted to show its evolution into a modern digital bank and demonstrate how easy its online banking service is to use. Instead of a presentation, ECHT created an interactive, gesture-controlled game using the Leap Motion device, installed at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.
Crack the vault
The game opened in front of a realistic 3D bank vault with a massive steel door and a keypad. Using only hand gestures, players had to enter the PIN code as fast as possible. Once the right PIN was entered, the wheel turned automatically and the vault door swung open.
Inside the vault, a laptop showed a replica of Citibank's online banking portal. There, players completed a dummy transaction against the clock, experiencing first-hand how quick and simple online banking is.
A photo for social media
Before the final scoreboard appeared, players stepped into a digital photo cut-out: a skydiver in full gear with space for their face in the helmet. They positioned their head in the marked area and the game took a snapshot. The best snapshots were chosen and published on Citibank's social media channels.
Why it worked
- Memorable: gesture control turned a routine banking task into an adventure
- On message: every player actually used a replica of the online banking portal
- Quick: each game took less than a minute, keeping the queue moving in a busy mall
- Shareable: the photo moment extended the activation onto social media
The result
A playful, competitive experience that connected Citibank's brand with innovation and showed how easy its digital services are, in under a minute per player.
